Valley Roller has spent considerable resources developing a line of elastomeric roll covering coverings for the pulp and paper industry. These efforts have focused upon gaining a full appreciation for the environment pulp and paper rolls are exposed to. The pulp and paper industry requirements are different from other market segments since coverings are exposed to higher speeds and pressures. Also, coverings used in this market segment are typically larger and require special roll construction methods. The pulp and paper industry uses roll coverings in a variety of functions throughout the paper making process. The selection process involves matching the specific operating parameters to the specific covering characteristics.
We have developed several families of coverings from 0-250 P&J that will meet the demands of the paper industry. These coverings have been developed to overcome the deficiencies of existing traditional pulp and paper roll coverings, including chemical resistance, hardness stability, hysteresis, heat stability, abrasion resistance, coefficient of friction, and coefficient of thermal expansion requirements. The following product line overview is broken down by specific press section.
Coverings for the Pulp and Paper Industry
Premium Rock®
Hardness: 0 - 1 P&J Thickness: 1/4" to 5/8" Temperature Resistance: 250° F
This covering is a universal 0—1 P&J paper covering. It exhibits excellent abrasion resistance, low hysteresis and superior chemical resistance. The coverings outstanding hardness stability enables it to outperform typical ebonite coverings even at higher operating temperatures.
Applications: Form fabrics/ Wire Rolls, Table Rolls, Felt Rolls, Breast Rolls, Felt Carrying, Suction Couch, Plain Couch, Dandy Roll, First Return Roll, Hard Press Roll, Breaker Stack, Hard Size Press, Dryer Felt, Lead In / Lead Out Rolls
Hardness: 0 - 1 P&J Thickness: 1/4" to 5/8" Temperature Resistance: 250° F
This covering is a specialty 0—1 P&J paper covering for applications requiring release properties in addition to typical ebonite properties. It exhibits excellent abrasion resistance, low hysteresis and superior chemical resistance. This coverings outstanding release characteristic enables it to outperform typical coverings when sticking is a problem.
Applications: Hard Top Press Roll, Breaker Stack, Top / Center Press, Smoothing Press
Premium Press Rock®
Hardness: 5 - 250 P&J Thickness: 1/4" to 1 1/2"
Temperature Resistance: 275° F
This family of coverings has been specially formulated for paper making applications. They exhibit excellent abrasion resistance, low hysteresis and superior chemical resistance. The coverings are formulated to exhibit outstanding hardness stability that enables them to outperform typical nitrile coverings. They will out perform most other coverings in high pH chemistry even at higher operating temperatures. They will provide positive drive where wire slippage may be of concern.
